About
South Thames College
Success in the workplace is all about skills – having the right ones for the job, proving that you know how to use them, and making sure they’re up to date. At South Thames College, every course is designed to give you the skills and techniques you’ll need to stand out, from professional cookery and performing arts to engineering and hairdressing. You’ll train in purpose-built facilities using industry-standard tools and equipment, and get the opportunity to take part in competitions to develop your skills further. You can even get help finding a work placement to get real-world experience.
Types of Courses Offered
Vocational Courses
At South Thames College we want to give you the skills you need to stand out in the world of work and build your career. All of our courses emphasise practical learning, using modern tools, equipment and software in purpose-built facilities.
Many of our courses, including hospitality and catering, hair and beauty, and music performance, also have competitive elements to help test and develop your skills – our students have won awards in such competitions as the Wessex Salon Culinaire, Nestle Toque d’Or, and World Skills. Our links with businesses around London mean that we can help secure work placements in the industry of your choice too.
BTECs
Did you know that a BTEC Extended Diploma is worth three A-Levels, but it can get you up to 100 more UCAS points? Our courses are a great way to get on track for uni, and some of our BTEC graduates have gone on to top UK universities, including Russell Group. And if uni isn’t right for you, you’ll still have the practical skills you’ll need to start your career.
Our range of courses includes Business, Health and Social Care, Applied Science, and TV and Film, amongst many others. Visit our website to find out how far we can take you.
Apprenticeships
Apprenticeships are a great way to earn while you learn. Our apprenticeships include hospitality, engineering, and childcare, and you split your time between College and your workplace. Many apprentices stay on with their employers after they qualify, and our graduates have won awards from the likes of Crossrail and STEMnet. Our Facilities Management apprentice Liliana was even presented with an award by HRH The Princess Royal.
If you’re over 16, legally entitled to work in the UK, and don’t hold any qualifications above Level 4, we can get you started – we’ll even help you find a work placement if you don’t already have a job.
Short and part-time courses
Want to learn a new language? Fancy saving money on takeaways by cooking your own curries? Or do you have DIY jobs at home you want to tackle? We’ve got a wide range of short and part-time courses to help you learn new skills, explore new interests, and make new friends.
Many of our courses run in the evenings or on weekends, so they’re easy to fit around your schedule. Popular courses include cake decorating, digital photography, and Pilates, and most are taught at either our Wandsworth or Tooting Campuses.
