Course description
Introduction
Clothesmaking is a great skill to have if you're interested in working in fashion, going on to do a fashion course, or starting your own clothesmaking business. This one-day course will introduce you to the basic skills you need to get started.
You'll use a sewing machine and pattern to make a simple garment or accessory. You'll be introduced to essential sewing skills such as:
How to thread and use a sewing machine and overlocker
Understanding a pattern and choosing suitable fabric
Laying, pinning and cutting out fabric
Completing seams and hems.
If you're self-employed, you might be able to deduct your enrolment fee from your taxable income.
Assessment
Your teacher will give you feedback and advice. You'll work with your classmates to evaluate each other's work. You'll also complete an individual learning plan.
Next Steps
This course will give you an introduction to the skills you'll need to go onto a longer fashion, clothesmaking or sewing course. It can also help you if you're interested in making your own clothes professionally. Enrol on a longer course at the College to develop your skills further.
