Sheep Husbandry - An Introduction
This introductory course is a combination of lectures and practical sessions designed for those who are considering or have just started keeping sheep.
Suitability - Who should attend?
As with all practical courses participants are required to wear work clothes and steel toe capped boots or shoes
By making a booking you are declaring yourself medically fit to participate in the course
Outcome / Qualification etc.
A Writtle University College Certificate of Attendance will be issued on the successful completion of a practical assessment.
Training Course Content
Topics to be covered include:
- Sheep Breeds, The British Sheep Industry and The Annual Production Cycle;
- Basic Sheep Behaviour and Handling;
- Lambing and Lamb Tasks;
- Care of the Pregnant and Lactating Ewe;
- Basic Sheep Health Care (Including Worming, Vaccinations, Foot Trimming and Body Condition Scoring);
- Basic Sheep Nutrition;
- Signs of Ill Health and Disease;
- Animal Welfare and Legislation
