Course description
Learn to work safely around animals, plan feeding and nutrition, and carry out animal husbandry with our Level 3 Advanced Technical Certificate in Animal Management at Writtle College.
If you have a passion for animal care and want to work in the industry, this course is for you.
It will give you the practical skills and knowledge you need to seek employment, or progress to further learning or training.
As a student at Writtle College you’ll use our animal studies centre, with its aquatic, reptile and companion animal rooms. It’s part of our rural campus that’s also home to horses, livestock and a working farm.

Main
5 GCSEs at Grade 9-4 or A*-C, which must include English and Maths
Satisfactory references from most recent school, college or employer
Alternative qualifications or experience will be considered on application.

Course delivery details
This course includes a range of mandatory and optional units. You’ll complete all mandatory units and select two optional units from the list below, as determined by your Course Leader.

Assessment
We’ll assess your progress in a number of ways including college assignments, internally and externally marked exams, and a portfolio of evidence.

Having completed our Level 3 Advanced Technical Certificate, you’ll be ready to work in the animal care and management industries. Potential jobs include:
- Animal care worker
- Animal care assistant
- Maintenance worker in an animal care setting
- Apprentice in an animal care business
Or you might choose to continue your studies, by progressing to Year 2 of our Level 3 Advanced Technical Extended Diploma in Animal Management (720). This, in turn, can lead to degree-level study.
