Course description
This course is designed for school leavers wishing to enter the construction world. You will complete a programme of study allowing you to progress to the next level. This will consist of employability skills, preparation for work, personal and social development. A keen approach to the construction world is essential for this qualification as you will learn basic skills to develop you further in preparation for the next step up.
The programme involves a variety of crafts, including: Painting & Decorating; Carpentry & Joinery; Multi craft construction activities; Plastering; Wall Tiling. These are delivered on a weekly basis, in conjunction with other subjects. Students are always encouraged to gain subject-related work experience. During the year, three weeks are set aside purely for the purpose of enrichment. In addition to this, trips related to the core programme may be organised. There is usually no or minimal cost for any of these activities.
There are several practical assessments with knowledge questions that form part of the qualification. On completion of this course, including English and Maths, and employability subjects, successful learners may choose to progress to Level 1 construction courses. The course is designed to prepare you for the world of work so your attendance and punctuality must be exemplary on all programmes of study for you to progress.

Suitability - Who should attend?
There are no formal entry requirements, but you will be required to attend a formal interview to see if the programme is right for you. You’ll need a basic level of English and Maths, plus you’ll be keen to learn in a vibrant atmosphere.
