Able Skills Carpentry instructors have devised a bespoke programme of training which they feel, based on their work experience, meets the needs of the industry. This course is specifically designed to ensure that candidates have the skills that are current and essential to secure work. This bespoke course has City & Guilds Accreditation exclusive to Able Skills.
What Youll LearnThis 6 week of hands-on carpentry training will see you progress from a novice to a competent Carpenter with the course designed to build your skills gradually until various aspects of carpentry becomes second nature and at this Centre where reality is important, this is easily achieved.
We will provide you with training and assessment in several areas of Carpentry covering first fix aspects like cutting and laying floor joists and fixing door linings as well as second fix aspects such as hanging doors and fitting skirtings and architraves etc.
The course is designed to build your skills gradually by providing training on smaller carpentry work and building to the more complex areas as the course progresses.
The areas in which you will be trained on are:
- Fixing architraves and skirting
- Fitting locks and latches
- Constructing studwork with opening
- Constructing and installing door lining
- Hanging a door
- Fitting floor joists and installing floor coverings
- Installing and bracing trussed rafters
- Setting out and cutting one pair of common rafters
This 6 weeks of hands on reality training will cover all of the basic and essential skills that any Carpenter will need in order to provide a competent service to any potential customer.
Courses Open To You AfterHaving completed this course and then gained some industry experience, you may wish to achieve a qualification in carpentry. An option to consider would be theC&G Level 2 Carpentry Diplomaor maybe theLevel 2 Carpentry Diploma with additional NVQ training and registration essential if you are considering site work and need access to a CSCS card.
Additional InfoThis course can be covered over a period to suit you andyou can train for 6 consecutive weeks, divide your weeks up or even incorporate some weekend trainingif you have ongoing weekly commitments. At Able Skills we aim to make our qualifications as accessible as is possible and additionally we offer a payment plan which, following a deposit, is on an interest free pay as you train basis.
We are aware that every student that attends Able Skills learns at a different pace; if you find that you have completed all tasks in less than the 6 weeks allocated, we have additional learning programmes available, making this an even more comprehensive and rewarding training programme.
This is a hands-on, practical carpentry course and you will be involved at every stage and will be participating throughout. It is therefore recommended you bring suitable clothing and for your own safety,steel capped footwear is essential.
LocationAll of our courses take place at our dedicated training centre in Dartford, Kent. The centre is easily accessible by road, being just 10 minutes from junction 1a on the M25. We are only a short walk from Dartford train station which is served by frequent trains taking 35 minutes from central London. For anyone travelling from further away, we have our own accommodation available at only £25 per night.

Duration & CostThis is a6 Week (30 day) course,and the cost is£2695.00including vat. A deposit of £500.00 will secure a booking with the balance payable as follows:
Full time 6 weekly payments of £365.83 following the deposit.
Weekends Training is arranged on a 2 weekend on and 2 weekend off basis. 15 weekends of training over 30 weeks. Following the deposit, 7 payments of £313.57 (once per month).
