Course description
The Bricklaying Level 2 study programme builds on the skills and knowledge you will have learned at Level 1, advancing onto bigger practical projects and more advanced theory. The course ranges from health and safety to mixing and bedding, walling details and ground work.
This programme combines core employability skills with a broad understanding of bricklaying. You will be introduced to core bricklaying skills such as measuring, estimating, drawing out plans, and laying bricks and blocks to build brickwork structures.
On this programme you will also learn the attributes, values, skills and attitudes for working in the construction industry, with a specialist focus on bricklaying. The programme is designed to increase your employability and prepare you for progression into a bricklaying apprenticeship.
The course blends practical workshop skills and activities with underpinning knowledge that is delivered in the classroom.

Suitability - Who should attend?
Applicants for this Level 2 programme will normally have a Brickwork Level 1 qualification.
You also need to be ready to study for an additional qualification in English and/or maths. All students have their literacy and numeracy needs supported within the programme.
You will also be given a tour of the workshop.
Safety boots or shoes must be worn in the workshop, along with suitable clothes. These items are not provided by the college. However, we do provide tools.
This course prepares you for employment and provides further craft training in the construction industry. Get ready for employment as a work-based learner apprentice in brickwork or complete further study at Level 3.
Training Course Content
Building on the skills and knowledge you learned at Level 1, advance onto bigger practical projects and more advanced theory. This includes setting out and arch projects. You will gain brickwork skills and understand a detailed overview of the construction industry. Functional skills also form part of the course.
