Course description
Learning in the Rycotewood Furniture Centre, our students develop skills as creative thinkers and makers, who innovate furniture craft through the exploration of materials and skills.
The programme balances design, craft and theory to nurture furniture designers and makers of excellent ability who can progress to employment or further study with a broad understanding of the processes involved in the design and craft of furniture.
By training at our renowned Rycotewood Furniture Centre you learn the principles of handcrafted furniture from industry-trained tutors.

Suitability - Who should attend?
Minimum of 3 GCSEs including English and maths at grade 3/D or above and/or a completed Level 1 award.
If you are interested in a Level 2 programme and have alternative qualifications you would like us to consider please contact us with your details. Applicants will complete an internal assessment. All students will have their literacy and numeracy needs supported within the programme.
Training Course Content
You learn by doing practical activities skill-based projects and watching tutor demonstrations on campus in our Rycotewood Furniture Centre workshops.
Course delivery details
The course includes lectures on timber technology designing and health and safety too. This is a very highly-regarded training centre for furniture making.
You are continuously assessed by practical exercises and written work. You produce a portfolio of learning and complete a timed practical assignment. There is also a one-hour multiple choice exam in health and safety.
