Domestic Chainsaw Use and Log Splitting
During this four hour course participants will gain understanding of the correct procedures and safe working practices for using a chainsaw and manual log splitting at home.

Suitability - Who should attend?
We are governed by Health and Safety Executive (HSE) regulations therefore participants will not be allowed to start the course without the correct equipment. They may prefer for their comfort and safety, to bring their own Personal Protective Equipment. We strongly recommend participants also wear a high visibility vest.
Participants are encouraged to bring their own saw if they require specific advise but use of them on site will not be permitted.
Outcome / Qualification etc.
This course is aimed at people with log burners and/or large gardens who may need to use a chainsaw occasionally. Anyone intending to use a chainsaw professionally should look at our NPTC courses.

Topics covered include:
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Safe use in the working environment
- Hazard identification
- Correct work positioning
- Using correct fuel
- oil mixtures and chain lubrication
- Maintenance of the saw
- Sharpening of the chain
- Starting and stopping procedures
- Storing your machine when not in use
- Log splitting with hand tools.
