Course description
The TQUK Level 2 Award in Support Work in Schools (RQF) has been designed to provide learners with the skills and resources to become effective school support workers. This distance learning qualification is knowledge-based, which means that students do not need to undertake a placement, while they complete the qualification.
The purpose of the qualification is to introduce learners to the knowledge required to in the school sector in a range of support functions including administrative roles, site support roles, technical roles, or working with children and young people. Areas covered include child and young person development, safeguarding the welfare of children and young people, communication and professional relationships, equality and diversity, and schools as organizations.
This is an ideal qualification for candidates not yet employed by schools. It is also a useful course for any supporting staff in primary or secondary schools. School administrators, receptionists, librarians, IT support workers, learning support assistants, teaching assistants, caretakers, and lunch-time assistants will all benefit from this completing the Level 2 Award in Support Work in Schools (RQF).

There are no requirements to gain entry to this course. Everyone is welcome to enrol without prior qualifications or other academic requirements.

Child and young person development
- Know the main stages of child and young person development
- Understand the kinds of influences that affect children and young people’s development
- Understand the potential effects of transitions on children and young people’s development
Safeguarding the welfare of children and young people
- Know about the legislation, guidelines, policies and procedures for safeguarding the welfare of children and young people including e-safety
- Know what to do when children or young people are ill or injured, including emergency procedures
- Know how to respond to evidence or concerns that a child or young person has been abused, harmed or bullied
Communication and professional relationships with children, young people and adults
- Know how to interact with and respond to children and young people
- Know how to interact with and respond to adults
- Know how to communicate with children, young people and adults
- Know about current legislation, policies and procedures for confidentiality and sharing information, including data protection
Equality, diversity and inclusion in work with children and young people
- Understand the importance of promoting equality and diversity in work with children and young people
- Understand the impact of prejudice and discrimination on children and young people
- Understand inclusion and inclusive practices in work with children and young people

- Know the different types of schools in the education sector

Course delivery details
Distance learning means learning at your pace, on your time. You will be in control of your study schedule, and you will be able to progress in your career as well as accommodate a family life or a full-time job. On average learners complete the course within 12 – 18 weeks.
Once you enrol on the course, you will be able to take advantage of the interactive resources through our online portal. The course materials are easy to understand and you are assigned a tutor, who will be available for advice and guidance via email.
In order to successfully complete this qualification, learners will need to achieve 12 credits. Five units 3 in total.
