GCSE English
The GCSE English Language course aims to:
Develop the skills you need to read, understand and analyse a wide range of different texts and write clearly.
Give you the knowledge and skills to pass GCSE English Language at grade 4 or higher
This intensive course covers a two-year school subject in only nine months. It is suitable for anyone needing to gain GCSE English Language at grade 4 or above: this offers access to higher courses, including A-level and some professional training, and gives confidence in helping your children with their school work.

Suitability - Who should attend?
A good general level of literacy is essential for this course. Functional Skills English L2 or GCSE English grade 3/D is desirable. You will be given an initial assessment before enrolment to establish your working level.

- Revision of grammar/language skills which are the basis of written work
- Reading and understanding factual information
- Reading and understanding imaginative writing
- Writing to convey information and writing fiction
- Speaking and listening in order to understand another person's point of view and to put your point of view clearly to others

Course progression
A GCSE in English Language at grade 4 or above is an essential qualification for many jobs. It is also needed if you want to undertake further training for professional qualifications, for instance, teaching and nursing, or if you want to go to university. You may want to continue your study by taking GCSE Mathematics or A Level English.
