Formerly known as PTLLS, the Award in Education and Training gives you the knowledge that you need to teach. It is a nationally recognised qualification, accredited through Open College Network West Midlands.

Suitability - Who should attend?
Teachers, tutors, trainers or anyone delivering or planning to deliver sessions. Training Course Content
The units
Understanding roles, responsibilities and relationships in Education and Training
o Understand the teaching role and responsibilities in education and training, including legislation and codes of practice
o Understand how to maintain a safe and supportive learning environment
o Understand relationships between teachers and other professionals.
Understanding and using inclusive teaching and learning approaches in education and training
o Understand inclusive teaching and learning approaches– including comparing strengths and weaknesses of different approaches
o Understand how to create an inclusive teaching and learning environment – including ways to engage and motivate learners and establish ground rules
o Devise teaching plans
o Deliver inclusive teaching and learning – including providing feedback
o Review the effectiveness of your own delivery
Understanding Assessment in Education and Training (this unit can be exchanged for Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment)
o Understand types and methods of assessment used in education and training including comparing strengths and weaknesses of different methods
o Involve learners and others in the assessment process – including looking at peer and self-assessment
o Understand and use constructive feedback
Practical teaching requirements
You will deliver a 15 minute session on a subject of your choice and have this observed by the tutor. 45 minutes must be spent observing other delegates and providing feedback to them. SKL Training will provide other microteaches for you to watch.
Course delivery details
How much time will it take?
Around 48 guided learning hours. There are lots of options available for how the course can run and we would discuss your individual requirements before you sign up. The idea is that you attend and learn in a way that suits you. You have up to 6 months to complete your coursework.
Are there any exams?
Are there any exams? No. Just the microteaching observation. Your work isn’t graded either: you either pass or you are referred, which means you have an opportunity to resubmit your work. SKL Training will of course give you as much support as you need to pass! NEW FOR 2020: SKL Training now has an option for you to complete the full Award with NO HOMEWORK. All assessments will be completed in the sessions. Ideal for busy people or those who prefer to learn by doing!

7. Distance AETCAVA
Level 3 Award in Education and Training (AET) with Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (CAVA)
Includes the level 3 teaching AND level 3 assessing qualification!
You’ll get a workbook resource and access to a tutor
You’ll need a minimum of two of your own learners to work with to provide evidence for CAVA. Your learners must be working towards an accredited qualification.
You have up to 9 months to complete everything, including microteach

8. Classroom AETCAVA
Level 3 Award in Education and Training (AET) with Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (CAVA)
Includes the level 3 teaching AND level 3 assessing qualification!
Zoom or classroom sessions with a group or one to one
You’ll get a workbook resource and access to a tutor
You’ll need a minimum of two of your own learners to work with to provide evidence for CAVA. Your learners must be working towards an accredited qualification.
You have up to 9 months to complete everything, including microteach
Prices start at £1000
Ideal if:
- You want to gain a teaching and an assessing qualification at the same time
- You want the benefit of discussions with a group and an opportunity to share good practice

9. Distance CET
Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training via distance learning
You’ll get a workbook resource and access to a tutor
You can jump straight to level 4 if you choose: you don’t have to do level 3 first!
You have up to 12 months to complete everything

10. Classroom CET
