Course description
The Award in Education and Training qualification is suitable for individuals who wish to teach in the Further Education and Skills Sector and forms a foundation for those with little or no previous experience of teaching or training.
The Level 3 Award in Education and Training (RQF) is a new qualification which replaces the Level 3 and Level 4 Awards in Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS).
The course has the following units:
Unit 1 - Understanding Roles, Responsibilities and Relationships in Education and Training
Unit 2 - Understanding and Using Inclusive Teaching and Learning Approaches in Education and Training
Unit 3 - Session Planning and Micro Teach Skills
Unit 4 - Understanding assessment in education and training
This programme provides the knowledge that will enable you to:
- Understand your own role, responsibilities and the boundaries of those in relation to teaching
- Understand appropriate teaching and learning approaches for the context of flexible learning in your specialist area
- Demonstrate session planning skills
- Understand how to provide inclusive sessions which motivate learners
- Understand the use of different assessment methods and the need for record-keeping.
The qualification is an introductory, knowledge-based teaching qualification which can be undertaken by individuals who are not yet in a teaching role (pre-service), or are currently teaching (in-service).
Learners must achieve a minimum of 12 credits from three mandatory unit groups to be awarded the Level 3 Award in Education and Training (RQF).
TheEducation and Training - Level 3 Award (RQF) Courseis for people who are looking to teach within the Further Education and Skills Sector. The course has been designed to give an underpinning knowledge of the roles, responsibilities and boundaries of teachers and trainers for those with little or no previous involvement of teaching or training. This is a replacement qualification for the Level 3 and Level 4 Awards in Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS).
The course will also cover appropriate teaching and learning approaches for the context of flexible learning in your specialist area and will show how to demonstrate session planning skills, how to deliver comprehensive sessions which stimulate learners and how to use different assessment approaches and the need for record-keeping.
On successful completion of this course, students will receive a Level 3 RQF Award Qualification with 12 Credits from Training Qualifications UK (TQUK).

You will receive access to the course materials through an online portal for a 12-month period. Students can use the portal for accessing their course materials, submitting assignments and to log tutor questions.
Please Note:An optional hard-copy version of the course notes can be purchased for an additional £48.00. This is useful for learners who also want to study away from the computer and means they have course notes they can keep and refer back to beyond their online course license.
Delivery of the hard-copy materials is usually within 5 to 10 working days by a recorded delivery service.
Prerequisites
There is no previous learning knowledge or experience required to take this course, and learners are not required to be in a teaching position. The student will need access to Skype for the Micro-Teach session in Unit 3.
Course Duration & Online Support
You can start this course at any time, and you would be registered for a one-year period. You also have access to a personal tutor who can be contacted through the online portal or by email. Your tutor is available to assist with any queries and to mark your assignments for the Awarding Organisation.
As the course is self-study, you can complete it as quickly as you like. Support extensions are available if students do not complete the course within the one-year period.
Assessment
The learner will complete a portfolio of evidence by successfully completing all of the activities at the end of each unit. This portfolio is assessed by your tutor who will mark and sign off each completed unit of study.
Course Assignments can be returned by uploading to the online portal, by email or by post. We recommend that assignments are completed and returned as word-processed documents through the online portal. Handwritten documents can be accepted but need to be clear and legible and may be subject to a longer marking time.
Please Note:The student will need to complete a practical Micro-Teach through Skype with their tutor as part of this qualification. Unit 3 is aimed at preparing for the micro-teach and as such it doesn't have an assignment included, although it is still a requirement that students complete Unit 3 of the course.
Education & Training - Level 3 Qualification (PTLLS)
On successful completion of this course students will receive an Education & Training Level 3 Qualification issued by Training Qualification UK (TQUK). This qualification has been accredited on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (Ofqual Qualification No. 601/1831/3). This is a Level 3 Award Qualification with 12 credits.
Please Note: The learner will be required to complete a practical Micro-Teach as part of the qualification.
