Course description
This course is suitable for school leavers and adults who already hold the Level 2 Certificate for Dog Grooming Assistants and want to progress in the dog grooming industry by becoming professional stylists or salon managers, or starting their own dog grooming business.
This is a one-year course aimed at school leavers and adults who wish to further their career in the dog grooming industry. It is designed to give you the skills required to become a professional dog grooming stylist. There are different units to complete, which involve both practical and theory aspects. This is a full-time course held within the college. The practical takes place in the college’s up-to-date commercial on-site grooming salons. Units to be completed include: Health and safety legislation and codes of practice for the dog grooming industry; Preparing, styling and finishing a dog; Health checking and handling a dog in the grooming environment; Customer service and record keeping in a dog grooming environment.
You will do 6 synoptic assignments (practical exams), a written assignment and an online exam. You can gain employment in the industry as a professional dog grooming stylist, salon manager, or set up your own dog grooming business.

Suitability - Who should attend?
You must hold the City & Guilds Level 2 Certificate for Dog Grooming Assistants prior to enrolment. You will be expected to buy the correct PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and scissor sets from the college. A placement within a grooming salon would be an advantage but is not a course requirement.
