Course description
This course will give you all of the practical skills you'll need. You'll be able to discover a variety of techniques that will enable you to carry out both grounds maintenance and practical landscaping. At the same time, you'll also learn basic design concepts and how best to use materials. You'll be able to choose whether to use your skills in employment or to build on your knowledge through further training.
COURSE CONTENT
You can look forward to a varied programme of modules that also includes a work placement. You'll also continue your English and Maths up to GCSE level. Modules include:
- Close board, panel and post and rail fencing
- Laying and repairing of ornamental turf
- Machinery use and maintenance
- Planting and setting out to a plan
- Site surveying and setting out measurements to a plan.
Study programmes include a minimum of compulsory work experience hours achieved through one day a week or block placements. The amount of hours required is dependent on the study programme. By completing this course, you'll be able to go on to complete on of three Level 3 Horticulture programmes or into employment in the hard landscaping industry, an apprenticeship scheme or work as a Garden Maintenance Contractor, Garden Maintenance Technician or Landscaping Technician.

Suitability - Who should attend?
Students should have achieved 2 or more GCSEs between grade 9-3 (previous grade structure A-D). Successful completion of a related Level 1 qualification plus GCSE English and Maths. Mature students without the above requirements will be considered
