Course description
This programme is designed for those who are interested in a successful career working in the countryside. It has a mixture of theory and practical sessions where you will learn about the wide range of rural industries and habitats, as well as develop practical skills in a range of subjects including forestry, countryside management, gamekeeping and estate skills. This course also gives you a sound background in countryside management, estate skills and game keeping. You’ll enjoy a mixture of interesting theory lessons and lots of fantastic practical sessions where you’ll learn all about the wide range of rural industries and habitats. Study programmes include a minimum of compulsory work experience hours achieved through one day a week or block placements. The amount of hours required is dependent on the study programme.
QUALIFICATIONS GAINED
- BTEC First Level 2 Certificate in Game Management
- Plumpton College Certificate
- Additional work related qualifications including Deer Stalking Certificates (DSC Level 1)
- College award, Functional Skills or GCSEs in English & maths
After completing your course, you can choose to go on to study a Level 3 in Game Management or Fisheries Management at Plumpton. Alternatively you’ll have the skills to find employment in game and countryside-related industries including as an Estate Worker, Park Ranger or Under Keeper.

Suitability - Who should attend?
Students should have achieved 2 or more GCSEs between Grade 9-3 (previous grade structure A-C). Successful completion of a related Level 1 qualification plus GCSE English and Maths. Mature students without the above requirements will be considered
