Course description
About the course
The aims of this theoretical and practical-based course are to introduce the individual to some of the techniques involved in DNA detection and analysis, and the associated Bioinformatics tools, covering a range of methods involved in current molecular investigations.
What do you study?
- DNA extraction from tissues and pathological samples
- PCR analysis to assess variation, and pathogen detection
- Gel electrophoresis: agarose and polyacrylamide
- DNA sequencing
- Mutation detection, including techniques such as allele specific PCR, SSCP, heteroduplex analysis
- Sequence analysis and alignment (ClustalW)
