Course description
This webinar will consider when Article 2 (the right to life) is and is not engaged at an inquest or public inquiry and why that is important. It is presented by Pete Weatherby KC, a human rights specialist who has appeared in high profile, controversial and complex Article 2 inquests and inquiries for well over 25 years.
The discussion will look at case law since the coming into force of the Human Rights Act and R (Middleton) v HMC for West Somerset and the statutory changes which followed. Recent high profile inquests will be looked at as case studies, including the Westminster Bridge and Manchester Arena inquests.
You will learn how to identify potential breaches of Article 2, how to persuade the Court/Inquiry that Article 2 is/is not engaged, all the latest case law, and what difference the engagement of Article 2 makes.
