Course description

Prior to the General Election the Labour Party had written a document called ‘Making Work Pay’, which set out their plans for changes to employment legislation. In July 2024, the King's Speech contained an introduction to an Employment Rights Bill, containing much of the proposed changes and an Equality (Race and Disability) Bill, specifically addressing equal pay and pay reporting. At the start of the Employment Rights Bill there is a commitment to introduce all the contents of the 'Making Work Pay' document.

The changes, particularly those in the Employment Rights Bill, are heralded as the biggest change to employment legislation in a generation.

In this webinar, employment law expert Professor Kathy Daniels will work through the changes that are planned, looking at what they mean for employers and what preparations it might be useful to make.

Introduction

Prior to the General Election the Labour Party had written a document called ‘Making Work Pay’, which set out their plans for changes to employment legislation. On 17 July 2024 the King's Speech contained an introduction to an Employment Rights Bill, containing much of the proposed changes and an Equality (Race and Disability) Bill, specifically addressing equal pay and pay reporting. At the start of the Employment Rights Bill there is a commitment to introduce all the contents of the 'Making Work Pay' document.

The changes, particularly those in the Employment Rights Bill, are heralded as the biggest change to employment legislation in a generation. The government has committed to introducing the Employment Rights Bill within the first one hundred days of Parliament, and it will then have to go through the Parliamentary stages. The changes, therefore, are not immediate, but they are extensive.

In this webinar Professor Kathy Daniels will work through the changes that are planned, looking at what they mean for employers and what preparations it might be useful to make.
