Course description

London Maritime Academy presents a specialised 5-day training course for Company Security Officers (CSOs) in the maritime sector. Focused on implementing the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code, this course equips participants with the expertise to conduct practical risk assessments and manage security at the shipping company level.

Incorporating established International Maritime Organisation (IMO) practices, the training is designed to deepen the understanding of the duties of shore-based company security officers and ensure compliance with maritime security regulations.

Upon completion, participants will be capable of:

  • Interpreting and applying SOLAS Chapter XI-2 and the ISPS Code for flag states and shipping companies.
  • Navigating the certification process for shipping company compliance.
  • Identifying and implementing effective maritime security practices.
  • Conducting thorough fleet security assessments and compliance planning.
  • Understanding the roles and responsibilities under the ISPS code.

  • Security levels – Shipboard actions

  • SSP – definition, how to conduct
  • Explosive Devices (IEDs) and weapons
  • CSP – essential elements, rationale, definition, how to conduct

  • The IMO Guide to Maritime Security and the ISPS Code
  • Recognition of persons likely to pose a security threat

  • Contingency Planning – security coordinator, searches, crowd management
  • Search Plans
