Course description
Non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT) utilizing cell-free DNA (cfDNA) from a maternal blood sample provides a more precise method for assessing the risk of Down, Edwards', and Patau's syndromes compared to the conventional approach (the combined test) currently utilized by the NHS. It is projected that in the UK, this test could decrease the number of women requiring invasive testing from 7,900 to 1,400 and reduce the associated miscarriage rate from 46 to approximately 3 per year.
