Course description
Develop your practical skills while learning about aspects of horse health, behaviour and welfare with our Level 3 Advanced Technical Extended Diploma in Equine Management at Writtle College.
We offer two extended diplomas in equine management at Writtle. This one, the 720, has fewer mandatory study units. It will suit you if you want to work in a hands-on role with horses, or in the wider equine industry.
You’ll fine-tune your practical skills while expanding your knowledge of equine health, nutrition, behaviour and welfare.
As a student at Writtle College you’ll be based in our Equine Training and Development Centre. Part of our rural 150-hectare campus, it’s home to around 70 horses and a range of facilities.

Suitability - Who should attend?
Main
- 5 GCSEs at Grade 9-4 or A*-C
- Must include English, Maths and Science
- Satisfactory references from most recent school, college or employer
- For direct entry to Year 2 of this course, successful completion of the Level 3 Advanced
- Technical Certificate in Equine Management
- A riding ability that is close to British Horse Society (BHS) Stage 2 Ride standard and some experience of working with horses. (We do not expect you to have passed any BHS exams before studying with us; this is just a guide to the riding level required for entry.)
- Alternative qualifications or experience will be considered on application.
Due to the nature and welfare of the horses at Writtle College, we operate a personal weight restriction of no more than 13 stone; non-riding options are available.

Course delivery details
This course includes a range of mandatory and optional units. You’ll complete all mandatory units and select two optional units from the list below, as determined by your Course Leader.
Units are subject to change and availability.
Assessment
We’ll assess your progress in a number of ways including three externally set and marked assignments, four externally set and marked exams, a portfolio of evidence, and optional unit assessments as required.
