Course description
This Foundation Learning course is designed to give you a solid grounding in health and social care in order to progress to Level 2.
The course will develop knowledge and awareness of the types of provision in these the health and care sectors (adults and children and young people), early years and childcare and the roles played by workers- from principles and values through to health and safety and working with others.

Training Course Content
You will study:
Mandatory units:
- Understand the range of service provision and roles within health and social care (adults and children and young people), early years and childcare
- Understand the principles and values in health and social care (adults and children and young people), early years and childcare
- Awareness of protection and safeguarding in health and social care (adults and children and young people), early years and childcare
- Introduction to communication in health and social care (adults and children and young people), early years and childcare
- Introductory awareness of equality and inclusion in health, social care and children's and young people's settings
- Introductory awareness of health and safety in health, social care and children and young people's settings
- Introductory awareness of person-centred support in health, social care and children's and young people's settings
Optional units:
- Introduction to the development of children and young people through play
- Introduction to dementia.
The units are delivered in a variety of ways which are both fun and interesting. As part of the course you will also be working towards functional skills in both English and maths.
Course delivery details
Throughout the year you will be given written assignments for each unit. The written assignments vary and may include posters, leaflets or essays.
Continuing Studies
If you successfully complete all the modules and receive a good reference from your teachers, you can go on to Level 2 Childcare or Level 2 Health and Social Care Diploma or an apprenticeship in the industry.
