Economic Evaluation of Health Care (PUBH5801)
This unit comprises concepts in study design for economic evaluation; techniques of economic appraisal including cost-effectiveness analysis, cost-utility analysis and cost-benefit analysis; an understanding of standard methodology including sensitivity analysis, discounting, willingness to pay and health state utility measurement; and procedures and roles in decision making for resource allocation in health care.

Students are able to
- explain the need for economic evaluation in the health sector, and how economic evaluation informs priority setting;
- describe the main economic evaluation conceptual frameworks and methodologies;
- assess costs and outcomes for the purposes of economic evaluation;
- describe issues and limitations in economic evaluation methods; and
- develop knowledge of sources of data that supplement economic evaluation studies.
Course delivery details
This unit is taught in intensive face-to-face mode over the week 6 - 10 December 2021. Readings are made available in LMS two weeks prior to the teaching week. It is not possible to audit this unit.
