TÜV Rheinland Functional Safety of Machinery
The goal of this course is to learn the principles and requirements of Functional Safety of Machinery (FSoM) including the practical application of the requirements in accordance with the machinery standards ISO 13849 and IEC 62061
Participants, who fulfil the requirements, attend the complete training and pass the exam successfully will receive the Functional Safety Engineer - Machinery (TÜV Rheinland) certificate with an individual ID number. Holders of this certificate will be listed at the TÜV Rheinland website ‘List of Functional Safety Engineers - Machinery’

This training is intended for application engineers who will be involved in machinery applications covering the machinery safety risk assessments, design, engineering, installation, commissioning, operation and maintenance of safety related electrical control systems & safety related control functions for machinery applications.

Upon completion of this course, the participants will be able to:
- Describe the principles of functional safety management, key features and requirements of both ISO 13849 and IEC 62061 standards
- Describe the requirements of the machinery safety lifecycle
- Understand the methods and strategies for risk reduction in machinery applications
- Understand the relevant requirements from A- and B-standards for the technical design, selection of machinery safety equipment, design, engineering, configuration, organisational requirements, quality system, documentation, verification and validation
- Describe the selection of protective devices for Machinery to achieve the required risk reduction with examples of safety functions
- Understand the quantitative assessment of machinery safety functions

Expenses
In accordance with the TÜV Rheinland functional safety training program, candidates shall have:
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience in the field of functional safety
- Certificate in a relevant engineering discipline or equivalent engineering experience and responsibilities as certified by employer or engineering institution
