Course description
This practical lecture-based course offers a guide to the safe handling of chemotherapy in veterinary practice. The course will cover general principles of the use of chemotherapy and describe the chemotherapy drugs and protocols most commonly used to treat cancer patients in general practice. The delegates be taught the correct techniques for safe preparation and administration of chemotherapy drugs in a step-wise manner, in order to avoid or minimise adverse effects, achieving the best outcome in terms of survival and quality of life. One entire lecture will be dedicated to the very important topic of health and safety of handling cytotoxic drugs in veterinary practice.

Learning objectives:
At the end of the course the participants should understand the indications and safe techniques of administrations of the chemotherapy agents and protocols most commonly used in small animal oncology.
Required delegate attributes:
General practitioners at any level of experience. The course can be an introduction for the least experienced or work as an update for example certificate holders. General principles of chemotherapy will be reviewed alongside the most recent advances and rescue protocols through both simple and complex cases.
