Course description
This Veterinary Surgical Training Academy’s course covers the theory and clinical use of stapling devices in veterinary surgery. It is an intensive practical hands-on one-day workshop covering the indications for, and the safe application of, surgical staplers in veterinary surgery.
During the workshop the techniques and technologies will be explained and demonstrated before each delegate is able to use each device in a safe and controlled environment. Emphasis will be placed on the safe and reliable use of each stapling device.

- Principles of surgical stapling
- Basic stapling techniques
- Use of vascular clips
- Use of the thoraco-abdominal (TA) stapler
- Use of the gastro-intestinal anastomosis (GIA) stapler
- Use of circular end-to-end anastomosis (EEA) stapler

- Types and uses of surgical stapling devices in clinical veterinary surgery
- Principles and practice of vascular clips

Required delegate attributes or who this course is suitable for:
The course is suitable for qualified veterinary surgeons at any level of training especially those actually performing urinary tract surgery on a regular basis. Ideally (but not essential), delegates will have already attended the VSTA’s Veterinary Basic Surgical Skills course.
