Course description
This one-day course will teach a state-of-the-art approach to both acute and chronic otitis. Diagnosis and treatment using otoscopy, in-house laboratory equipment and STORZ video otoscopy will be demonstrated in practicals following initial seminars. The course is supported by STORZ who will be supplying video otoscopy equipment.

- Approach to the ear case
- Diagnostic techniques including cytology, bacteriology, imaging and diagnostic lavage
- Treatment including choice of agents, removal of ceruminoliths and waxy obstructions, myringotomy and when to opt for surgical intervention, for example total ear canal ablation & bulla osteotomy

- Predisposing, primary, secondary and perpetuating causes of ear disease
- Interpreting cytology and bacterial culture results
- Benefits and limitations of otic video endoscopes
- The benefits and limitations of radiographic, CT and MRI imaging
- The principles of treatment

This course is designed for veterinary surgeons with all levels of experience. It will provide invaluable experience for those who are new to video otoscopy and to all small animal clinicians for whom ear disease is a daily problem. The course would also be of value to those veterinary surgeons undertaking further professional qualifications in small animal dermatology.
