Course description
**This course is priced at £1400 for those who have attended the Veterinary Basic Surgical Skills Course**
This highly practical two-day arthrodesis intermediate course covers the principles of arthrodesis, its indications and safe application. Delegates will be given the opportunity to perform arthrodesis of both the carpus and tarsus of the dog.
The course will utilise post-operate radiographs to carefully critique each delegates’ arthrodesis surgery allowing individuals to learn and minimise surgical inaccuracies in the future. The course is aimed at surgeons with previous orthopaedic experience.

- Principles of arthrodesis
- Case selection
- Pre-operative templating
- Pancarpal, partial tarsal and pantarsal arthrodesis including tricks and tips to make the surgery safe and repeatable
- Post-operative radiographs; assessment and critique
- Awareness of and managing post-operative complications

- Dealing with orthopaedic trauma cases
- Internal fixation of fractures
- Locking and non-locking plates
- Performing osteotomies
- Managing cases that would benefit from arthrodesis
