Course description
Cabinet Making Basic Skills:
Cabinet making is more complex than carpentry or joinery in that it uses more elaborate joints and more precise ways of cutting and shaping wood. Cabinet makers tend to use hardwoods like beech and ash rather than softwoods like pine. The basic skills course on Tuesday nights offers tuition in the use and maintenance of hand tools, cutting and shaping wood, and the construction of a range of joints. The project for this class is a small ash shelving unit, using dovetails and through tenons.
