Course description
This one-year programme is suitable for anyone wishing to work in the Sport and Leisure industry, or hoping to move on to higher level qualifications. It is ideal for students who want a basic grounding in sport and leisure, which they can apply to the industry. It also contains the underpinning knowledge and skills students need to learn to progress to further qualifications or into work. On this programme you can achieve the following qualifications: BTEC Level 1 Diploma in Sport and Active Leisure and BTEC Entry Level 3 Certificate in Personal and Social Development. Other qualifications include: Junior Sports Leaders Award, Functional Skills in Communications, Numeracy and IT, along with additional coaching qualifications. You will also have the opportunity to assist with coaching sports in local primary schools and helping at school athletics championships and other sporting events.
Assessment will take various forms including practical assessment, written coursework and presentations. Various activities and events are organised by the Students’ Union. Within the sports department we organise an outdoor adventure activity day (subsidised activity) and there are also college sports teams competing in the Association of Colleges Sport matches. Successful students can progress into employment or continue their education on the Level 2 Sport Diploma.
