Course description
This introductory course can be taken on its own or can lead onto the Level 1 Award in Contemporary Textile Design in January.
Activities may include:
� Exploration of a range of processes and skills used in textile disciplines
� Exploration of different images in textile disciplines
� Use of sketchbooks to record and explore ideas
� Introduction to visual language and textiles
� Introduction to a range of tools and techniques used in textiles
� Health and safety in workshops
� Individual presentations and group work
� Discussion groups to explore the effectiveness of various techniques
� Tutor, peer and self-assessment.
This is a project-led course and you will produce work to a given brief. There will be no formal assessment but you will receive regular feedback on your work from your peers and tutor.

Suitability - Who should attend?
The most essential requirement if to have a passion and enthusiasm for textiles and what you can make, say and do with them. Apply online and a learner services team member will be in contact to make arrangements to enrol you. If you are doing this introductory course as a prelude to enrolling on the Level 1 Award in Contemporary Textile Design (or Art & Design or Jewellery) in January, then you will need to attend four of these weekend courses in any art and design discipline this term, and show through your work, commitment and regular attendance show that you are ready for the Level 1 qualification.
