EFL - Conversation & Pronunciation - Intermediate: This course will help learners feel more confident when communicating in English.
� The course will help learners to practise speaking at an intermediate level+
� Learners will be able to notice the difference in register: formal and informal; and amend their style according to suit different situations and functional context
� �Real� material will be used, for example newspaper articles, magazines, forms and leaflets in order to improve learner�s level of understanding and range of language
� Learners will discuss a variety of interesting topics (mostly chosen by themselves) and communicate well within context
� Learners will also learn some useful everyday expressions, colloquialisms,
practise phrasal verbs and idioms
� Learners will have a chance to focus on their own English pronunciation, intonation and stress on individual words and sentences. Improved �clarity� is key not changing ones accent!
� By the end of this short conversation/pronunciation course, other skills such as listening and reading should have improved alongside speaking in English
This course will help you with:
SPEAKING AND LISTENING
� Understand and enter into discussions with other people.
� Listen to others� opinions and be able to say what you think.
� Use formal and informal English in different situations.
READING
� Read a variety of different texts such as books, interviews, newspapers, exercises to extend your vocabulary.
� Understand the main points of a piece of writing.
� Find information in a text.
You will be given the opportunity to use websites to help with your English and to use the college intranet system to access work set by your tutor.

Suitability - Who should attend?
You are an upper-intermediate user of English; overall band grade 5/6 in IELTS (English Language Testing System). You are relatively confident in speaking, listening, reading and writing in English and can handle some complex communication in your own field. You are can cope with overall meaning in most situations although you are likely to make many mistakes. You are not yet able to use more complex language or need a wider range of vocabulary to express yourself more sufficiently. You should an Advice and Guidance session to assess your level of English; in some cases your tutor can advise you.
