Course description
This courses introduces the basic operation, capabilities and applications of wireless communications including fixed microwave links, satellite communications, WiFi and WiMAX, and mobile communications.
This course is designed for those who require an appreciation of wireless communications including those joining the telecoms sector in a managerial or technical role.
This course begins by describing the factors that determine the information transfer capabilities of radio signals and the choice of radio frequency for a particular application. The capabilities, applications, and security of the various types of radio system are then described and compared. Radio systems described include fixed microwave links, satellite communications, WiFi, WiMAX and the various generations of mobile communications systems.
There are two versions of this course: One is designed for study on a tablet through the learntelecoms App which is available for Apple® iPad® and for AndroidTM. The alternative version provides access to the course on a PC or laptop.
