Dressmaking and Garment Construction for Improvers
You will learn how to use a commercial pattern to plan, cut and make a garment of your choice according to your ability
On this course you will be taught:
- Choose a pattern for your skill level
- Pick suitable fabric for your style
- Take and record body measurements
- Customise your pattern for better fit
- Plan and cut your pattern pieces
- Transfer pattern markings to fabric
- Neaten raw edges inside your garment
- Follow pattern instructions
- Construct your garment
You will learn through group work, demonstrations, sample-making and independent construction of your own garment.

Suitability - Who should attend?
This course is suitable for those who have previously attended a course on using a sewing machine or those who have some previous sewing experience.
You will need to have a basic understanding of dressmaking and garment construction, preferably completion of dressmaking for beginner’s course.
