Suitability - Who should attend?
There are no formal entry requirements for this course, but you must be aged over 18 and either employed or have regular access to a youth work environment.
We recommend that you have a strong command of literacy and numeracy before enrolling on these courses. We can provide support for this through our programme of online and classroom study for English, Maths and ICT.
You need to be regularly working directly with young people between the ages of 11 to 25 and have the support of an organisation throughout your study.
All new entrants to the youth work sector must be willing to undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check; you can not start studying until you have proof of this.
Qualification Objective
- For Level 3 Certificate, you will need to gain 26 credits from 8 mandatory units and two credits from 1 optional unit.
- For Level 3 Diploma, you will need to gain 26 credits from 8 mandatory units and 11 credits from 4-6 optional units.
Learners who achieve Level 3 Certificate in Youth Work Practice may wish to complete additional units to obtain a Level 3 Diploma in Youth work Practice.
You may also consider progressing onto other Level 3 or Level 5 Diploma programmes or go further, by joining one of our Management and Leadership courses, or the various higher-level qualifications available nationally.
Outcome / Qualification etc.
The of SEG Awards ABC Level 3 Certificate and Diploma in Youth Work Practice has been developed by industry experts, including the National Youth Agency and the ETS of England and Wales. This qualification embraces the National Occupational Standards for youth work and is JNC recognised with endorsement by the ETS of England and Wales.
It supports the skills, and knowledge learners need to become a competent Assistant Youth Support Worker. Learners will complete this qualification with a concrete understanding and practical experience of the following:
- The essential purpose and role of youth work including the skills, knowledge, qualities and values required to practice
- Safeguarding in a youth work setting, including how to protect young people when using contemporary technologies
- Young peoples development and how youth work can support young people during adolescence
- Working with challenging behaviour
- Work-based Reflective Practice
