Course description
The Preparing for Prescribing short courses have been designed to help pharmacists, nurses and allied health professionals working in all aspects of health care to develop key skills and knowledge in order to prepare them for the non-medical prescribing programme. The short online Numeracy for Prescribing Practice covers some of the basics which underpin the pharmacology of drugs. Students work through a series of six modules:
- Basic numerical principles
- Quantities, units and conversions
- Concentrations
- Dosage calculations
- Advanced dosing calculations including paediatric dosing and injectables
- Introduction to basic statistics
Each module includes a series of practice questions to which feedback is given. When students are satisfied with their knowledge and understanding of the concepts of the module they can elect to undertake the end of module test. This test can be repeated until the student is happy with their understanding of the module content. Final assessment is through an overall course test which includes questions from across the six modules. Students will be able to print out a certificate which indicates successful completion of the Numeracy for Prescribing Short Course. Course fee – £120.
