Course description

The objective of this live and interactive online seminar is for delegates to be critical of their writing styles so that they can detect bad drafting habits and develop a clear, unambiguous communication style. Delegates will also be provided with an overview of the way that the courts in the UK interpret legal documents and to test their understanding.


Including practical drafting exercises, the topics covered by expert speaker John Trimbos will include how to eliminate unnecessary words, superfluous word clusters, active vs passive voice, redundant expressions and legalese, when to use tabulation, how to avoid ambiguity, the rules of contractual interpretation, drafting errors and lessons from solicitors’ negligence cases, using precedents, freeform drafting and more.
