Course description
Our 10-week Introduction to English Law and Legal Method short course provides a comprehensive introduction to the UK legal system and how this sits within European legislation.
Taught online, this legal English Law evening class provides a detailed examination of how legal rules are made and applied; and an overview of the twin pillars of state - the courts and the constitution.
You will be encouraged to participate in class discussion on individual topics, including:
- Parliamentary legislation
- The doctrine of precedent
- Equitable principles
- Legal terminology
- Law reporting.
Brexit and the impact of human rights law are also discussed.
This English law course may be beneficial for those wanting to study a degree in Law as it will provide a taster before deciding to commit further.
Our online introduction to English law course is taught at introductory level and so no formal formal legal training is required. It is ideal if you have an interest in the law or you are required to understand aspects of the legal process within your role.
Course delivery details
Assessment and certificates
There are no formal assessments although you will be invited to submit a piece of written work on a topic of your choice. In-class tests and presentations are encouraged but not essential.
You will be awarded an official City, University of London certificate if you attend above 70% of the classes, however, our short courses are not formally accredited.
