Course description

Offensive weapon offences are part of the staple diet of the defence and prosecution in both the Magistrates and Crown Court. This virtual classroom seminar will provide you with a comprehensive introduction to the key issues.


The session is presented by Olwen Davies, a hugely popular speaker and freelance solicitor-advocate with extensive experience in both defence and prosecution work. Topics discussed will include the key concepts (‘has with him’, ‘reasonable excuse’, ‘possession’ and more), principles and interpretation of the Sentencing Guidelines, and sentencing decisions from the Court of Appeal. Burden of proof will also be explored, along with joint possession, new offences under the Offensive Weapons Act 2019, and all the relevant case law.
