Course description
The introduction to the Hair Sector Level 1 programme is designed to build on your interest and passion for the hair and beauty industry, covering a wide range of skills from styling, make-up and skin care. These qualifications are designed for people who want to prepare for further learning or training in the hair and beauty sector.

- Colour hair using temporary colour
- Styling women's hair
- Skin care
- Manicure
- Pedicure
- Applying basic make-up
- Follow health & safety in the salon
Progression from the Level 1 Introduction to the Hair and Beauty Sector to the Level 2 Hairdressing, Level 2 Beauty Therapy or Apprenticeships will not be guaranteed without meeting the entry criteria for the course, including a clear disciplinary record and at least 90% attendance.

Suitability - Who should attend?
Students should be 16 years of age at the start of the course and have three GCSEs at grades D-E which must include English and Mathematics, together with a satisfactory school reference. All applicants will be interviewed to assess their suitability for the course and should have a keen interest in the hairdressing, make-up and beauty therapy sector. Good IT skills are also required, as is access to a computer and the Internet outside College.
