The unit content of each NVQ can be selected to meet the needs of employers and their individual apprentices.
- NVQ Level 2 in Performing Engineering Operations including a minimum of six technical units.
- BTEC Level 2 Extended Certificate in Engineering
- Functional Skills in Mathematics and English
- Personal Learning and Thinking Skills
- Employment Responsibilities and Rights
Assessment is largely through the production of portfolios of evidence, which include the achievement of practical tasks, observations, oral and written questions and answers and assignments. Functional Skills are assessed by examination.

Suitability - Who should attend?
As this is an employer driven course, employment in an appropriate engineering organisation is required. Entry requirements are dependent on each individual employer, usually a minimum of five GCSEs at grade A* to C including Mathematics and English Language. In addition a GSCE at A*to C in Science or a BTEC Level 2 or Extended Diploma in Engineering or other equivalent qualification is an advantage. A keen interest in the design and manufacture of products or electro-mechanical engineering maintenance is essential.
