Suitability - Who should attend?

You need to be employed in an Engineering Technician role, hold a relevant Level 2 (GCSE 4–9) Maths, Science and English qualification, or be working at towards a Level 2 on Initial assessment.

Training Course Content

What you'll learn

EAL Level 2 Advanced manufacturing Engineering (foundation competence)

Mandatory Units

  • Complying with statutory regulations and organisational safety requirements
  • working efficiently and effectively in an engineering environment
  • Using and communicating technical information
  • Conducting business improvement activities

Practical qualification delivered and assessed a minimum of two days per week at college through formal practical assessments, after progressive training has been delivered

Functional Skills level 2 (English)

Functional Skills level 2 (Maths)

Edexcel Level 3 Diploma In Engineering – Year 1/2 (Development Knowledge) Delivered one day per week at Technology Campus, Oxford, Reading college or Guildford College

  • Unit 1: Health and Safety in the Engineering Workplace
  • Unit 3: Mathematics for Engineering Technicians
  • Unit 8: Mechanical Principles of Engineering Systems
  • Unit 12: Engineering Drawing for Technicians
  • Unit 56: Electrical and Electronic Principles in Engineering
  • Unit 2: Communications for Engineering Technicians
  • Unit 4: Engineering Project
  • Unit 11: Electro-pneumatic and Hydraulic Systems and Devices
  • Unit 13: Computer-aided Drafting in Engineering
  • Unit 36: Business Operations in Engineering

EAL Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Engineering Maintenance (Workplace)

  • 001 – Complying with Statutory & Regulations and Organisational Safety Requirements
  • 002 – Using and Interpreting Engineering Data & Documentation
  • 003 – Working Efficiently and Effectively in Engineering
  • 004 – Handing Over & Confirming Completion of Maintenance or Installation Activities

Electrical Pathway

  • 011 Carry out Fault Diagnosis on Electrical Equipment & Circuits
  • 012 Maintain Electrical Equipment
  • 013 Modifying or Rewiring Electrical Circuits
  • 014 Testing Electrical Equipment & Circuits
  • 015 Carry out Preventative Planned Maintenance on Electrical Equipment

Or Mechanical pathway

  • 005 Carrying Out Fault Finding Diagnosis on Mechanical Equipment
  • 006 Maintaining Mechanical Equipment
  • 009 Carry out Preventative Planned Maintenance on Mechanical Equipment
