Learning Mentor – Level 3 Apprenticeship
Learning mentors use their sector-specific experience to guide and advise those who are less experienced and new to a work role.
The learning mentor is therefore a ‘dual professional’ having both up-to-date knowledge and skills in a specialist area, together with the skills necessary to support learners.
This apprenticeship programme is the first formal recognition of this vital role. It allows both individuals and businesses to gain skills and showcase their commitment to learner development.

Suitability - Who should attend?
Entry Requirements for English and maths:
Apprentices are required to meet the initial entry points for English and maths as follows:
- For level 2 Apprenticeship training for companies the minimum entry level for English and maths is ‘Entry level 3’ (E3).
- For all level 3 and 4 Apprenticeship training for companies the minimum English and maths level 1, ideally level 2.
- For level 5 and 6 Apprenticeship training for companies, the minimum English and maths should be level 2, some individual circumstances may be considered at level 1.
Initial assessment is completed prior to starting the course. All applicants will be supported to attain these entry levels prior to joining the course, or whilst on the course, where possible.
Apprentices working with young people and vulnerable adults would be required to hold a DBS clearance as necessary.

You’ll need to be:
- 16 or over by the end of the summer holidays.
- Living in England.
- Not in full-time education.
Who it's for:
Learning mentors (LMs) supporting learners of all ages, and all levels, to develop within a new work role. Mentoring is – and has been for centuries – the foundation of vocational training and Apprenticeship training for companies, yet this standard is the first formal recognition of this role. Nowadays, mentoring takes place in all parts of the education and training sector (ETS) and staff-development contexts. Learning mentors can work with apprentices, trainees or new recruits (ranging from young entrants to new CEOs) in the workplace, or in any vocational learning environment.
