Course description
The Institute offers three Professional Development Certificates:
- Educational Leadership & Social Justice: The Nature of Educational Leadership, Social Justice Leadership, Successful & Effective Leadership, Crisis & Risk Management, Cultural Competence in Teaching & Learning.
- Leading Equity, Diversity & Inclusion: Let’s Talk About Race: developing a shared language and practice, Understanding Equity, Diversity & Inclusion, Leading diverse teams and workforce, Leading change for equity.
- Inclusive Curriculum: Cultural Competence in Teaching & Learning, Diversifying, Decolonising & Inclusivising the Curriculum, Anti-racist pedagogy, Unconscious bias in teaching & learning.
Each programme is designed to provide introductory knowledge and skills to individuals in a variety of roles, and with responsibility for educational leadership, curriculum design and oversight, and leadership of EDI.
Each programme supports ‘knowing’ and ‘doing’ by combining theory, practice and case study evidence from multiple organisational settings. In addition, each programme is designed to promote collaboration, critical self-awareness and reflection.
Each programme takes between 30 -40 hours to complete, including ‘taught’ sessions. To receive the “Professional Development Certificate”, all module assignments must be undertaken and passed.

Philosophy
The underpinning philosophy of these workshops is ‘practical wisdom’ constructed as follows:
Learning aims
- The main aim of the programme is to upskill existing, newly and/or recently educational leaders, curriculum leaders, EDI leads to deepen and widen their understanding and practice.
- Learning in workshops should support improved leadership practice
- The sessions have ample opportunities for skills development, and reflective and reflexive practice. This is central to its design. Each module emphasises ‘doing’ as well as ‘knowing’, with space provided to reflect on practice for practice.
- Theoretically sound, and practically relevant
- Theories are used to scaffold learning and help with ‘sense-making’.
