Human-centered Design for Work at a Distance: Prototype Solutions

This course builds on the teachings in Human-centered Design for Work at a Distance: Toolbox Essentials. We recommend you complete it before enrolling in this course.

One of the benefits of acquiring human-centered design skills is that they are extremely versatile. Once mastered, they can be applied at an individual, team or organizational level, to support product design, team communications, problem solving, customer experience and more.

In Human-centered Design for Work at a Distance: Prototype Solutions , you will deepen your knowledge of human-centered design, combine the tools learned in Human-centered Design for Work at a Distance: Toolbox Essentials, and learn a problem-solving methodology to propose solutions for real-world people who need to transform how they work at a distance.

Continue to learn from guest speakers from a range of industries, work with, and receive feedback on a real case study, and build a case study based on a real person in your community that you could support. Initiate and implement your own design process to help improve or re-invent that individual or organization’s work/business.

Prerequisites

Human-centered Design for Work at a Distance: Toolbox Essentials is recommended to be completed before enrolling in Human-centered Design for Work at a Distance: Prototype Solutions.

What you'll learn

  • Combine human-centered design tools to create an actionable problem-solving methodology.
  • Identify problems and propose solutions for a targeted use case of your own choosing.
  • Execute an Agile project management process including ideation, task planning and usability testing.

Training Course Content

Module 1: Learn a problem-solving methodology, understand how you solve problems, identify and make propositions to solve a real-world case study. Lalo Espejo, ESL Instructor and Script Writer is featured.

Module 2: Manage your iterative solutions supporting others who are reinventing their work at a distance through Agile project management processes. Guest speaker case study: Naz Mandani, Project Manager, Customer Success Manager is featured.

Module 3: In this module, you’ll focus on refining your solutions and testing them. In addition, you’ll learn how you can improve your own value proposition and that of your colleagues with specific strategies from the guest speaker.

Module 4: This module will serve as a review of the entire course and propose a visual model that tests your ability to try out of the box thinking when it comes to solutions for your particular use case.

Culminating capstone assignment: The capstone project is cumulative. From Module 2 onwards, you need to choose a person that you know who has a problem to solve working at a distance. All activities in each Module are focused on helping that person. At the end of the entire course, you will create a pdf that collates all of their efforts as identified in the module activities.
