Course description
The five-day online ‘Occurrence investigation in Air Traffic Management’ course has been created to provide Air Traffic Control Providers with training that will enable their staff to conduct comprehensive investigations into occurrences and serious incidents within the Air Traffic Management domain.
The course has been developed in partnership between Air Navigation Solutions Ltd and Cranfield University to provide a course that provides unparalleled experience in applying the foremost investigation techniques in the ATM environment.
You will be taught the theoretical knowledge and practical skills required in conducting safety investigations, before you put them into practice when you undertake the key stages in a simulated occurrence investigation. In teams you will request appropriate evidence, conduct interviews, analyse evidence using a formal model and make safety-based recommendations.

- Identify roles and responsibilities within the occurrence investigation process;
- Collect and analyse evidence specific to the ATM domain
- Undertake an investigative interview using the GEMAC model;
- Collect and analyse human factors evidence;
- Critically assess analysis techniques used in occurrence investigation;
- Evaluate common causal factors;
- Make effective recommendations.
- Write effective reports.

Course delivery details
Course structure
The course is designed to support delegates who may be attending from +UTC time zones. Live teaching starts at 08:00 UTC (09:00 BST) and finishes circa 16:30 UTC. Delegates will require access to a computer that is capable of using conferencing software and is connected to an internet connection that enables stable video streaming. The course will be delivered in English.
