Outcome / Qualification etc.
Through this course, you will:
- gain expertise in trust classification, types, and validity, advising on their taxation and modern tax planning applications
- understand legal complexities in trust deeds, trustee roles, and responsibilities
- learn the legal formalities of will preparation, analyse existing wills, and advise on tax-effective wills
- navigate tax implications and legal considerations for lifetime gifts and gifts in contemplation of death
- understand executor roles and advise on legal estate management, including probate and intestacy issues
- learn to minimise taxation issues in wealth transfer, specifically inheritance tax and capital gains tax
- develop skills in constructing and interpreting trust and estate accounts
Course delivery details
This course runs twice a year in January and July.
A flexible, part-time, four-month course, comprising:
- online guided study, including self-assessment questions
- two, full-day, online workshops
This course is assessed by a five-hour open-book examination.
Once you have successfully completed this course, you will gain 30 Diploma-level credits towards STEP membership and be awarded the STEP Advanced Certificate in Wills and Executries: Law and Practice (Scotland).
