City & Guilds 2919-01: Electrical Vehicle Charging

This course aims to provide expert guidance to delegates wishing to gain knowledge and understanding of Electric Vehicle charging equipment installation.

It is primarily aimed at practising electricians who would like to further their skills and are interested in understanding how to install a range of EV equipment and the systems available. The course covers the specialised installation requirements of electric vehicle charging equipment in public, private, commercial and industrial locations, and includes exclusive guidance on electrical requirements.

Suitability - Who should attend?

Although there are no formal pre-requisites for this course, we advise that you have a good understanding of electrical installation, inspection and testing, and have passed the City & Guilds 2382-18 (18th Edition) course.

Outcome / Qualification etc.

Participants will learn installation, inspection and testing and hand over requirements for electrical vehicle charging equipment. The course builds to a 3-hour practical assignment, split into four tasks:

  • Task A: Installation design (commercial/on-street) (30 minutes)
  • Task B: Carry out installation (1 hour)
  • Task C: Initial Verification of installation (inspection and testing) (1 hour)
  • Task D: Installation design (domestic) (30 minutes)

At the end of the course, delegates will also be required to complete an online multiple-choice assessment, consisting of 40 questions.

  • Introduction to Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment
  • An overview of Statutory and Non-Statutory requirements
  • EV Charging systems, including modes of charging and types of charge equipment.
  • Installation of Domestic, Commercial and On-Street Charging equipment
  • Electrical installation requirements, earthing systems, protection devices and installation restrictions
  • Inspection and Testing of EV Charging points
  • Commissioning and handover of electric vehicle charging equipment

The course fee includes; comprehensive course notes, refreshments and a buffet lunch (lunch and refreshments are not included for onsite training).
