Course description
The BSc (Hons) Sport Coaching Top-Up degree at Newman is an opportunity for you to pursue a career across different coaching and teaching settings. The degree will allow you to develop your coaching skills by reflecting upon your practical experiences and apply knowledge of sport science.
The course is taught in dedicated facilities on one campus. The Human performance lab, indoor sports hall, strength and conditioning suite, aerobic conditioning suite, group exercise studio, full size outdoor 3G pitch, dedicated seminar rooms and staff offices can be found within a 100 metres radius of each other.
Suitability - Who should attend?
All applicants will need to have 120 credits at level 4 and 120 credits at level 5 in a relevant Foundation Degree or HND. To progress directly onto level 6 (third year of the degree) applicants should normally achieve an overall merit or distinction. Applicants not achieving this can enter at level 5 (second year of the degree programme).
All applicants intending to progress directly onto level 6 are required to attend and pass a bridging module prior to enrolment. This module focuses on research methods and academic writing. Applicants not achieving pass this module will enter the programme at level 5 (second year of the degree programme).
International Students
Newman University is not licenced by the UK Government to sponsor migrant students under the Student route and is therefore unable to accept applications from international students at present.

Course delivery details
You will study core coaching modules ‘Sport Coaching and Practitioner Pedagogy 2’, and ‘Developing Young People and Athletes through Sport’. You will also have the option to select a module from the Sport and Exercise Science course (Physiology or Biomechanics). Finally, you will undertake either an independent research project, or a negotiated work-based project.
On the programme you will be assessed by a range of assessment methods including practical coaching, producing teaching resources and planning, producing digital content, poster presentations, group and individual presentations, e-portfolios, online assessment, and problem-based learning tasks along more traditional methods.
Expenses
The full-time course fee for September 2023 is £9,250 per year.
The University will review tuition fees and increase fees in line with any inflationary uplift as determined by the UK Government, if permitted by law or government policy, in subsequent years of your course. It is anticipated that such increases would be linked to RPI (the Retail Price Index excluding mortgage interest payments).
